Thunderbird cannot download mail while virus protection is enabled.

I have to disable virus/spyware protection to get my mail with Thunderbird. I am running no add-ons, ver. 2.0.0.6

Windows XP Pro, auto updates, Blink Personal Version 3.2.2, Rule version 1417
    AntiVirus Version 1.0.223
Vulnerability Scanner version 5.8.4, Audits version 1747.

Mozilla Thunderbird hangs while virus protection is active, can't download mail.

Any help correcting this problem will be appreciated!

    Thanks, Tom

After you attempt to download your mail, are there any log entries in Blink showing anything that Blink stopped or blocked?  You may have to create a rule or two allowing your mail to function properly in Blink.

I can replicate this, which is why I'm here looking to see if anyone else has the problem.  I'm glad his setup is simple, because I do have addons and I'm using PopFile to filter out junk mail.  Everything works fine with Blink disabled, but if it's running, thunderbird indicates it's connected to the host, downloading a message, and then it eventually tells me it timed out.  PopFile is then unresponsive, but I can terminate it.

    PopFile version 0.22.5

    Thunderbird version 2.0.0.6

Blink personal 3.2.2 rule version 1419.

I have application rules for both PopFile and Thunderbird to allow them to run.

Can you please try to switch the IPS in passive mode and see if that makes the error go away?

Re: Thunderbird cannot download mail while virus protection is enabled.

I am having the same "no download" problem, but doesn't seem to change w/McAfee enabled or disabled..  Just started suddenly <<yesterday>> in TBird 2.0.0.6.  No system changes, no new add-ons - nothing new.  My 2.0.0.6 has worked great until then.  All previous versions also worked great.

Funny thing is that we can send but not receive.  POP3/SMTP are ok - no changes from my ISP that I can find.  Thought it was the SMTP server but installed Outlook and it works like a champ, downloading and uploading w/o problems......but I really prefer to have my TBird back.

    Running Vista Home premium w/McAfee.

    Anybod have any ideas?

    Thanks,  Woody

Yes, currently, as far as I know, Blink is not compatible with Windows Vista.  eEye has stated they were still working on an edition for Vista that should be out near the end of this year.

Secondly, running Blink with any other security program (minus a few noted by other users) usually conflicts with Blink because of its multilayered protection design.  Blink was originally intended to be a complete security suite in itself therefor any other software, eEye has stated, is not really needed.

Re: Thunderbird cannot download mail while virus protection is enabled.

Sorry, I can't help anymore.  I've since uninstalled Blink, as it was once again causing too many conflicts with legitimate actions and software.  I'll try again in about 2 months when my current norton AV subscription expires.  Maybe then it'll be stable enough for power user use.

I have tried blink before, and I gave up on it when it was causing problems with truecrypt.  That's now resolved, but thunderbird problems and home network problems (windows shares suddenly fail) was enough for me to uninstall and go back to NAV.  NAV, while a resource hog, at least lets me use my PC normally, once I turn off "worm protection" and "outbound email scanning" (which is always complains about, but it'll get over it).
