Update causes Windows XP Pro to freeze

    Version: Blink Personal 3.2.0

If I choose Blink's "Check for Updates" option, the first three items download and install OK. The fourth one, Blink itself, downloads OK but doesn't begin to install - instead I get a dialog saying "The Blink service is starting", followed by one that says something like "The Blink service failed to start: see the Windows Event log for details", and then a dialog saying "The Blink service is stopping". At this point the system seems to be still responding, but anything I do (such as choosing anything from the Start menu, or pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up Task Manager) causes it immediately to freeze, and there is no way of getting out of it except to hold the on/off button down long enough for force the computer to power off. This behaviour is consistent. The scheduled Auto-Updater suffers from the same problem, alas.

Has anyone else experienced this, and what can I do about it? (Apart from not updating!)

I'm disappointed not to have had any reply to this - the freezing problem happens quite often, and of course one has to run chkdsk afterwards, so it's not good. If it can't be resolved I think I shall have to abandon Blink and go back to other security products, which would be a shame, as in every other way I am very impressed with Blink. Still, this sort of thing is what a 30-day free tria is for, I suppose!

    Hi Philip

There were three users reporting this problem and I was trying to follow up with another user to get some additional logs. I haven't received them though, so if you can still help us with this problem and this problem is still reproducible, please reproduce the problem and send me at lnicula@eeye.com this log file:

    "c:\Program Files\Common Files\eEye Digital Security\SyncIt\debug_syncit.log"

ALL PLEASE NOTE:  Due to the very large size of this entire text file, Eeye's mail server will not accept these logs and you will get a kick-back to your mailbox.  I have pared down my debug.txt file and have retransmitted it to Inicula.  Hopefully this will allow Eeye to recieve our logs and offer us a solution to these frustrating problems.

My log file was over 1 MB in size, but zipped down to a slim 83 kB - WinZip (or 7z or whatever) are our friends!

    Hi Laurentiu,

Thanks for your post and for explaining the delay in replying. The good news is that the problem seems to have gone away - at least, I can't reproduce it this morning. I'm sending you a zipped-up version of my log file anyway, in case it's helpful for you - it covers the period when this problem occurred several times. Of course, it's possible that the system "freeze" may have prevented the relevant information from being written to the log or the log file being saved. If the problem recurs, I'll send you a new log file.

I cannot download to my Download Accelerator Manager.  Does anyone know how to configure Blink to accept DAM ?

    Thank you
