    Retina scans

Not sure if this should go in this section or not.  I recently started working as a government contractor supporting the C&A efforts of a DoD agency.  The tool for vulnerability scanning is Retina, but since I am not very familiar with it, just had a few questions that hopefully someone on this forum can answer.

Most of the scanning we do here is for stand-alone workstations/servers.  I’ve noticed that if I do the scan from a remote laptop (not part of a domain, just linked by IP through a switch) I get different results than if I was doing the scan locally (with Retina installed on the same device I am scanning).  I found an article on the knowledge base (KB000696) that talks a bit about setting up Windows Local Security Policy manually, which I have done, but still the scans are much more robust if done from the same machine I am auditing.  My biggest concern is that if I install Retina on the same machine I want to scan, I will change the original baseline of that box (I noticed .NET 2.0 started to install on one occasion when I did this).

Is Retina meant to be run ONLY on a network environment?

    Running v5.9.4, btw.

Are you using the Blink Personal Edition (with Retina in it) or the full fledged version of the Retina scanner by itself?

I'm using the full fledged Retina scanner by itself.

Alright, well I personally don't have an answer for your question, but you are entitled to support via the Customer Service Portal located here because you are using the full version of Retina:
