    FATAL ERROR Equals Infinity Loop

I have XP Pro Sp3. Blink Personal edition. Was experiencing icon problems so redid the Icon Cache. This resulted in missing Blink icon in taskbar. Seemed the only way to get back that icon was to uninstall and reinstall Blink. Uninstall was successful. Reinstall is now a problem. I ran Blink 404 setup and got to the point where it was to connect to internet to generate serial number. Blink did not, could not connect to internet because ISP dropped the connection. Blink stopped the install process. Now the internet connection is active, and Blink is installed. Using the start menu, clicking on Blink and following message appears: Error Loading Library Caller: D:\Blink\Blink.exe Library: DebugRpt.dll Using the start menu, clicking on Blink Uninstall and some notifications appear, but too quickly to read. Uninstall does not proceed. Using windows add and remove programs a “Fatal error during installation” appears. I do not see any uninstall.exe in the Blink Folder on hard drive. If I run the setup.exe to attempt reinstall, or repair results in this message: Fatal Error Installation ended prematurely because of an error. Round and round it goes, unable to activate, install or uninstall. I hope some one has a solution.

Try using this tool to remove Blink http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295823 and then do a reinstall.

The problem continues and has become a challenging project to get resolved. I am at a loss for what to do next. I ran the Windows Installer cleanup. Rebooted. Clicked the Blink icon in add\remove programs and message displayed: This action applies to programs currently installed. Blink icon is then removed from the list. Reboot and attempt to delete Blink folder. Unable to delete. Try to install Blink 404, programs loads until this message: Eeye Digital Security Blink Setup Error 1904. Module D:Blink\eeyeInthst.dll failed to register. HResult –2147023898. Reboot and every subsequent reboot message displays: [Eeye File Protection] error loading library. Caller:D:\Blink\blink.exe Library: DebugRpt.dll. Currently Blink Folder is on D drive and does not delete. Blink is not displayed in Installer Cleanup utility and not in the add\remove programs list. Blink will not install or uninstall. I attempted to Format Drive D to get rid of Blink but Windows cannot format drive due to disk utility or other programs using drive. Does Eeye have a utility that will erase Blink from computer? Is there any software programs that deal with resolving buggy or failed installs? Today I was able to download and install two critical updates from MS Update site, so it seems the Windows Installer is functioning. Although I wonder about the Installer since it is not displayed in the add\remove programs list, nor in the Cleanup Utility. If I remember correctly over the past years Win Installer always displayed in A\R and Cleanup. Wonder if I should download and install Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en This is XP Pro XP3 installed 8.10.08, so it is clean and functional except for the Problem with Blink.

A couple of more items. I have noticed that every time I attempt install of Blink, and it does not complete the install I loose dsl network connectivity. If I reboot or not it doesn’t matter. Either way I loose the connection, no output from the computer over network for as long as 5 minutes to half an hour. I let the machine sit and in time the connection is active again. This first occurred when I attempted install and Blink didn’t install because it could not connect to internet for serial number….. I was installing another software program today, and noticed that as the program was installing, the Logitech Quickcam software was installing. I originally installed the webcam some days prior to the problems with Blink. Maybe the windows installer program is corrupt? Or maybe the problem is residual from the Quickcam install? Attempted to clean Quickcam install with Installer Cleanup, but not listed therein.

The best way to remove Blink is to install it  successfully and then remove it. We need to figure out why is failing to be installed though.

Can you try install it in a different folder? If is still failing run it with this command

BlinkSetup.exe /Lv*! c:\blinksetup.log. After it fails please send us the resulted c:\blinksetup.log file.

I was unable to delay any longer on the issue. So I went ahead and used a program: __MoveOnBoot__ to delete the D:\BLINK folder. Used regedit, and other registry cleaners to purge as much as possible. All that remained was: elua.rtf, PrivacyPolicy.rtf and Scanner Folder containing Database > Reference > retina-os-db. These are Read Only and I cannot change attribute, so I renamed the files and folders. The computer is reasonable clean from traces of BLINK. Time to try a new install.

Re: FATAL ERROR Equals Infinity Loop

    Downloaded once again BLINKPersonalSetup404.exe. This time something new on the download process___I was given a serial number prior to download. That should circumvent the loss of network connective problem when obtaining a serial number during the install process. That was the problem, which prevented the first install, and all other problems since then._____ I allowed BLINK to install to default location at drive C. Once again the 1904 error, click ignore. Then error loading Blink.exe with debugrpt.dll which appeared twice. Then 1920 error: eeye app bus failed to start._____ I tried the suggestion to run with command to obtain setup.log, and windows cannot locate blinksetup.exe._____There is currently no eEye Folder at C:Win\Programs_____I attempted to install at safemode and the setup404.exe would not load\\run at all._____There is no entry for BLINK in WinCleanupUtility nor Add\Remove____I am frustrated and disappointed as I really want to have Blink back on my computer working as it always did_____HELP :-}

One last item….after running the install, and the reversal of the install one of the svchost.exe services runs at 50% CPU, and I am unable to use network connection to get to web via browser. This delay lasts a couple of minutes, though I have 2 Gb memory_____This must be the reason Blink didn’t get internet connection when I first attempted the install.

One last thing____I am not having ANY problems installing or uninstalling any other programs at this time....except for BLINK.

Re: FATAL ERROR Equals Infinity Loop

All this sounds awfully similar to what happens when installing Blink on top of another AV program which thinks Blink is malware and deletes files as they are installed.

Even though you might not see the program as being installed, the AV driver might still be active and do its thing. I would use Autoruns from Sysinternals and clean the system from drivers coming from AV products.

Thanks for the assistence, much appreciated_____This is a clean install of XP with no other AV on it_____I cannot find the problem or solution_____Had enough of it, so decided to do another clean install !!!______I installed BLINK on SP2, and it installed and works as expected_____Updated to SP3 and still no problems_____I decided a reinstall of System was the best bet in long term____HOPEFULLY NO MORE PROBLEMS.

I also had difficulty installing ver 4.0.4. In brief (as you already have read) you have to first uninstall ver 3.x.x manually.

I found this post http://forums.eeye.com/forums/p/591/2506.aspx#2506 by Inicula that worked for me. (Since I don't know how to insert a working link to this post, you can find it under  Troubleshooting, Cannot Uninstall Blink Personal..., 08-11-2008.  lnicula, 4th post.)

Referring to Inicula's 7 steps, I also ran CCleaner before and after Steps 3 and 7. It got rid of a few dozen additional eEye registry keys.

If I remember correctly, I booted in safe mode at Step 4 and deleted the C:\Program Files\eEye Digital Security\Blink folder directly without having to download and run Chown. This allowed me to skip Steps 5 and 6. I was then able to instal ver 4.0.4.

Yep, I know the feeling from past instances.  The steps I have had to take in the past are listed here:
