Vista Install Fails - VISTA Business with SP1

Set up a new laptop, uninstalled Windows Live OneCare, rebooted, then tried to install BLINK Personal 4.1.3

Appeared to load, bought up the BLINK Control Console, displayed "Blink Services starting ...", then "Intializing Protection engines..." .  BLINK then sent my hard drive into a frenzy, nothing seemed to respond, and eventually the cursor would not move .. the laptop all locked up.

I started in SAFE MODE and restore to a Restore Point just prior to installing BLINK and tried again ... still the same.

I had to restore to the point prior to the Windows Live OneCare uninstall, to get the Laptop going.

Is there a fix for this issue that stops me installing BLINK Personal 4.1.3 in a VISTA SP1 environment?

Did you try disabling the Windows Defender suite under Windows's Services and then try again?  This should not be happening regardless though if it was disabled or not.  Still it sounds like there is something else left or that is still on your system that is conflicting with Blink initially.  You may also want to try to redownload a new fresh installation package of Blink Personal Edition from:  http://forums.eeye.com/forums/t/786.aspx    For Example, I have found sometimes that I have got a "tainted" download that did not install properly, simply because I did not enable scritping completely for eeye.com (in NoScript) in Firefox and that corrupted the download enough that Blink did not install properly.

You might also trying cleaning up your system as I described here in this post before trying again:  http://forums.eeye.com/forums/t/752.aspx

The reason I point this out is, in the past I have tried another security application alongside Blink.  Even though I uninstalled it, the remenants of what was left behind internally conflicted, I don't know why, but it did.  I found in some instances, the only way to correct certain issues, was by doing a fresh install of Windows (which was easy because I have a image of windows I created that I could recover from).  Hopefully this is not your case, but see what works for you.

Thanks for your response ... I have installed the downloaded version of 4.1.3 on a Windows XP laptop and it works just fine ... my experience was always fine in Windows XP.

I ran CCleaner to clean out temp files (I like to be tidy) and then to clean out my registry.  I ran CCleaner to clean-up my registry 3 times to remove all residual muck.

I then disabled the Windows Defender service ... just to be sure ...

Next I uninstalled Windows Live OneCare ... all OK.  Then a strategic reboot.  I re-ran CCleaner and there was nothing to clean-up in the registry after uninstalling.

I tried to install BLINK Personal again ... ran through the install process as expected ... the BLINK Control Console popped up, displayed "Blink Services starting ...", then "Intializing Protection engines..." .  BLINK then was actively using my hard drive, ... left it for 5 minutes to overcome any personal impatience ... the clock in the Task Bar had "stopped" ... the cursor failed to move .. the laptop was certainly all locked up again.

I did a forced shutdown, then a reboot ... entered SAFE MODE to restore to before the Windows Live OneCare uninstall ... alll is OK Now, but I still cannot install BLINK in a Vista Business SP1 environment.  I'm had an old laptop running BLINK Personal on Windows XP for more than 1 year, and I want it for my new laptop but I am stuck with the the Windows Live OneCare trial licence ... yuck.

     What is going on ????

Tried again after disabling UAC ,,, still no luck ... same experience ... "Blink Services starting ...", then "Intializing Protection engines..." .  BLINK was  then active, ... left it for 15 minutes  ... the clock in the Task Bar had "stopped" 15 minutes ago... the cursor failed to move .. the laptop was certainly all locked up again.  Rebooted but Vista would not boot, rebooted in SAFE mode and restored Vista to a restore point before BLINK install.
