    Bad License Key error

    Hi, all.

So, I bought this new laptop and downloaded Blink to install it.  First thing being installed on this new system.  It installs just fine, but then during the license key portion (I don't enter one, as instructed), it runs through it's thing and pops up a dialog box that says that I have a bad license key.  And, to make things worse, when I try to launch Blink, to see if I can try and resolve this, I get an error that I need to log in as 'Administrator' to finish the installation.  I tried creating a user named 'Administrator', and of course, Vista won't let me.  So, I'm stuck in a cycle of un-installing Blnk and reinstalling it - but I keep having the same issue.  I poked around on here a bit, and tried manually installing Microsoft Installer 4.5, and that didn't help.  And, I verified that I can go to http://www.eeye.com/custom/licensing/open.html with IE, and it shows 100.  Any other ideas?

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP1, 64-bit and am logged on with an administrator account.  I have some screen shots, but have no clue how to post them in here.

Anyway, please let me know if you have anything else I can try.

    Thanks!

To run an application "As Administrator" you not only have to be administrator but you need to right click the exe file and select Run As administrator.

If UAC is on, Vista by default runs an application with less privileges even if you are the Administrator. I believe the message you are seeing should describe the steps to accomplish this though. If it doesn't then we will have to make the message clearer.

    Thank you for that.  =)

I right clicked on the exe and selected run as administrator, and it brought up the window where you either enter a serial number or leave it blank.  I left it blank, and get the same result - it saying I have a bad key.  At that point, it says if the problem persists, to email licensing@eeye.com - so I figure that's my next step.  I'll include the screen shots that I have in that email.

    Thanks!

I would recommend re-downloading the installation package for Blink again
    from their website:  http://free-antivirus.eeye.com/

I have had issues, in this same manner, when I was in a VM downloading Blink
with Firefox and I forgot to allow ALL scripting in NoScript before I downloaded
it.  For some reason the installation package becomes corrupted.

I would also run something like CCleaner (free, great little tool) that will
cleanup any clutter from the first installation of Blink.  I described about some of its settings here in this post:  http://forums.eeye.com/forums/t/752.aspx

What version is your Blink and where did you download it from?

Like Blue said, you need to upgrade yours. I believe the  one you have does not support the new licensing scheme.

    Re: Bad License Key error

I have no clue what version it is - the file I downloaded doesn't have the version number in the name.  I downloaded it from CNet - download.com.  I'll try downloading it from the eeye site and try this again.

    Thanks!

    Re: Bad License Key error

That solved i!  It looks like CNet has an old version up there that is incompatible with the new licensing scheme.

    Thanks!

Outstanding!  Yeah,  a couple of the reviews I did on there, I tried to mention the link to use on eEye's site.  Not everyone uses reviews on things though (I don't).  Pretty much any site I leave a review on for Blink, I am also putting a link to eEye's site in it, because most of these download sites are either:

    A.  Using an OLD version of the product for their download

    B.  Other sites are using duped versions (Hacked) of Blink.  They are like Warez sites, but do not look the same....so you have to be careful.

    OR

    C.  They are offering the "trial" version (for one example) of Blink Professional and folks wonder why after 15 days Blink stops working on them.

CNET is ligit, but I don't think they keep their downloads updated regularly.

Anyways, let us know if you have any other issues!
