I heard back from the tech person you forwarded my msg to. I bet he gets to the bottom of my problems. Had a bit of a strange thing just happen - having been on 24/7 and this AM ckg Blink for any high Vulnerabilities and being delighted with a "0" I didn't pay further attention to my systray Blink icon - until just now - and it's gone. So, as admin I ran it again - but I've never had that happen: 'disappearing systray icons.' (Maybe there was a icon war and Windows Defender - which sat next to it knocked it out - ha ha ha.)

Re: inicula (sp?) - that's OK then - he has every right to be too busy to be here!

This is TOTALLY OFF TOPIC: Have you or anyone downloaded the new Firefox 3.5? Holy, moly! ! ! ! ! It is faster than a speeding bullet. LOVE IT! ! ! !

Hoping you had a nice 4th. And thanks for all the help you give me - it is always appreciated even when unacknowledged!

When I asked Blink to do 1st full scan after purchase - I had nothing else running - except my AOL dialup. I cannot think that an (admittedly slow) dialup would impede Blink where it doesn't impede Windows Defender. But you're right - I have no idea what processes were running in the background. If I try this again - is there a way that I can copy what background processes are running so that I can copy them to you - in order to help solve this problem?

Re: Blink Version. The legend says I have the latest version of Blink personal: Blink Personal Version 4.3.2, Rule version 1527;AntiVirus Version 1.0.721;Vulnerability Scanner version 5.10.12, Audits version 2100

(OFF TOPIC/OLD TOPIC: Forcing Blink to automatically download at startup: I just recently solved a problem I had going back a year ago when first I downloaded my free version. For the past year I was unable to force Blink to load automatically at startup - despite multiple posts (back & forth from others) as it was being prevented by Windows from not only opening automatically, but also from Blink's icon appearing in my systray. I was left to manually download Blink and several times was horrified to find that I'd forgotten! If anyone else would like to know how to force Blink to start at start up - let me know and I'll copy/post the multi-step approach to force Blink's download at startup.

Re: NEW POST - AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH BLINK - NOW THAT I'VE BOUGHT IT! ! ! ! !

Thanks for forwarding my problems to Blink, Blue 1978. Fingers, crossed. I've given up hoping to hear back from the tech support I wrote to days ago.

I purchased the regular. non-professional version: Blink Personal Version 4.3.2, Rule version 1527;AntiVirus Version 1.0.721;Vulnerability Scanner version 5.10.12, Audits version 2100

And, timed the Window Defender Full Scan - I misquoted - it took @ 3 hours - not 2 as I had said earlier. But far better than an unfinished-after-24hrs-by-Blink Full Scan. That's why I'm debating keeping Windows Defender running simultaneously to Blink.

I must admit that I am disappointed that inicula (sp?) hasn't responded to my recent posts. I thought he was one of the developers who frequently posts on our forums. Perhaps he's not, or I'm wrong. Oh, well.

I'm not sure why you're having issues trying to create a new post. We'll have to look into it with our IS team.

Also, a full system AV scan should not take over 24 hrs to complete. The only thought that comes to mind is if the computer is doing something else simultaneously (since Blink's full av scan is only done while the machine is idle by default). I havent seen any issue with Windows Defender running with Blink, but typically its best practice to not have more than 1 security product doing the same item (ie only 1 AV, only 1 firewall, only 1 IPS). Our only known issue with Blink (which is listed in our release notes) is "Windows Defender lists Blink as Unclassified software".

To better understand whats going on, I'd like to suggest you open Task Manager and see what the CPU is doing on the Processes Tab. That will help us understand whats going on. Also, I'd like to know what version number of Blink you have.

Thank you.

Here are the steps.

To export:

1) File -> Export -> Export Active Ruleset ...

2) Provide an arbitrary name and save to desired location.

To import:

1) File -> Import

2) Select the XML file exported earlier

-----------------------------------------------

     Seriously, IMO, if you like Blink, want to help improve it, and are willing to spend a few dollars, I would buy Blink Professional. Keep in mind, when you see Blink Personal Edition updated, Blink Professional will not be updated right away. The reason being, all of eEye's enterprise and business customers are using the Professional Edition. If eEye pushes out an update (that Blink Personal Edition users find issues in) then pushing it out to the Professional users would be a mistake and cause a lot of issues. Therefor, the code base of the Professional and Server Editions is protected a lot more. When an updated has been running successfully and there is not a lot of complaints, eEye will update it via the Customer Portal and at that time Blink Professional users will have the latest version available to download.

     Finally, the default exclusion list (the Apiex.dat file) that the Application Protection module uses is a bit tighter in the Professional Edition than it is in the Personal Edition. For Example, I can run the DVD playing software called "PowerDVD" with no issues on a system running Blink Personal Edition. However, if I run this software on a system using the Professional Edition of Blink, Blink's Application Protection module will stop PowerDVD from starting alerting on the C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD8\PowerDVD8.exe executable when it starts. I would have to put in an exclusion myself in the apiex.ini file before PowerDVD would run. This exclusion looked like: *PowerDVD8.exe;;Kevlar;0

     This is just one example where Blink Professional is a bit tighter on default settings than the Personal Edition is. I explained a little about what the main screen of the Customer Portal displays at the end of this post: http://forums.eeye.com/forums/p/996/4286.aspx#4286

Re: Which Version of Blink Should I Buy?

Hey, Blue 1978. Just so you know - and for anyone else who'd like to know, too - there is no way to reinstall after uninstalling when free offer expires. A licensed version MUST be purchased.

Re: Which Version of Blink Should I Buy?

OK.
You can now use a password in Blink to protect for added protection.

You will have access to your own Customer Support Portal at: https://eeye.com/clients from here you download your Professional Edition software whenever you need to, have access to most all of the other product manuals that are available, and can send support request tickets and so forth to eEye this way too.

That is just my take on the subject though. :)
