Also to consider, 32 vs 64, is that most new computers sold this summer and fall have Vista x64, and come with a free upgrade to Windows 7.

I have I assume that it still doesn't work for x64 Windows 7? The first time I ran the installer it installed the Microsoft VIsual C++ runtime for x64. THen it said it was checking for imcompatible software and then the window dissaperas. If I look at the task manager, i can still see an msiexec.exe process running in the background (not doing much, it's dormant). But it just continues to run indefinetely until I reboot or kill the process...

I have tried the NO_LAUNCH_CHECK=0 option. I have tried running the installer

in compatability mode for Vista Service Pack1. I even disabled UAC, no go. Same issue.

I'm hoping that you guys are still working on a solution for this issue. Because we are in the open license agreement with Microsoft and we are looking at deploying windows7 in IT and Web Devlopoment as early as October. Since all our new laptops have 4GB of memory or more we are all heavily pushing for x64 edition on our laptop. I'm hoping we can be protected with Blink Pro.

I can answer portions of your post:

I am currently running Blink 4.4.1 on Windows 7 RC 32-bit. It works great (seems better than on XP SP3). However, there are a couple of issues. I have had a few BSODS, which I have traced back to blink (several occured in a row, but they seem to be fine now, had something to do with a file called tcpip.sys).

Windows 7 should be similar to Vista (in how it handles BSOD memory dumps) so if you can complete the following for eEye (if your problem occurs again).

1. Right click on My Computer >> Properties >> Advanced Tab. Look for a Startup and Recovery section (like Vista has at the bottom of this window) and select the Settings button.

In this section, there should be something about writing debugging information and then a field that you can select what size of "memory dumps" you want the system to complete when it encounters a BSOD. If you can, select "Complete Memory" dump and then make note of where on your system it is creating the dump files at. The default location in Vista is: %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP. Now, if your BSOD occurs again, let the system create an entire memory dump before it restarts itself (so don't stop it by turning off your system when you see the BSOD). After your system restarts, go and retrieve the dump file it created, zip it in a zip file, and send it to Nicula at lnicula@eeye.com and if you want to include Brian also at bpatten@eeye.com . These dump files help eEye a lot with finding out what is causing the conflict with your system.

On a final note, you have to have a big enough pagefile also set to allow the system to create a dump file too. If it gives you a warning about not enough memory being set (after you make a change to the size of dump being done) that means your pagefile must be larger to allow it to complete successfully. Depending on the size of the memory dump, you may also have to email eEye and ask how you can transfer larger files to them (since email will not work when they are too big). eEye has ways of you sending them large files privately.

Since you know it is the firewall, can you run a debugging session with ONLY the firewall module in Blink turned on while you attempt to print? Information on how to do this can be found here:

Once again, send the logs to the same two individuals that I stated above. When you send any logs to eEye, please be sure to reference the post(s) you have made and any relevant information about your system that could be of use to eEye.

However, a few issues:

Printing with the firewall on is extremely slow (like one line every two seconds). When I turn off blink, it runs quickly.

This never happend on xp.

Also, windows 7 security center says it does not recognize the firewall, and that the antivirus is being reported in an "old" format.

Yes, but aren't you running the 32bit version of Windows 7? Blink is still being worked on because it does not work on the 64bit version yet.

I'm not sure if its already been posted that his works... but this works.

i'm running Windows 7 Ultimate from MSDN. i ran the eeye blink from the cmd with C:\.....\blinkconsumersetup.exe NO_LAUNCH_CHECK=1

and eeye is running perfectly on my system.

I am continually impressed by the adoption rate for Win7, despite it still being only RC level.

As for right now, I'm actually running only Microsoft Security Essentials beta. I am so far uninfected (though I'm sure my properly configured NAT router is more responsible for that than anything). We'll see how long that lasts hah!

We are releasing a 4.4 Beta on Monday July 27th. After that, we will be focusing on a number of issues one of them being Windows 7. An interim release will have the Windows 7 support.

I am sure lnicula from eEye will let us know when the Beta version is ready to be tested. I think they still have a few minor issues to work out first with it though.

Hi Blue,

I'm eagerly awaiting the x64 edition of Blink Professional to work on Windows 7 also. I'm using Windows 7 for my primary OS right now and I would love to have your protection on there (since we just barely purchased 10 licenses of it).

I'm hoping that you will open us up to the beta when it's available through this thread?

I was just updated by the Blink Team Lead "lnicula", that eEye has two more issues to address in Blink before releasing the Beta version (for Windows 7) to the public for anyone interested in testing it. This should cover both 32bit and 64bit versions (unless I am otherwise told). eEye will have more on this soon.

I just wanted to say that I'm another eEye customer who is very interested in installing and running Blink on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit ASAP. I have Blink Personal 4.3.2 and am getting the "Error 1723 Missing DLL" error when I install using "NO_LAUNCH_CHECK=1" on Windows 7 Build 7100. I'll be keeping a watch on this thread for good news.
