upgrade from Vista x64 to Windows 7 leaves Blink unusable, uninstallable

I should have known better, but I left Blink Personal edition installed when I upgraded to Windows 7 last night. Now I cannot start Blink, and the uninstaller fails with a 1703 DLL error.

Are there any instructions for manually uninstalling the product so I can try again?

    Thanks,

    Joe

Were you using a purchased license with the Personal Edition you were using before?  eEye may have reset it for you if you are.  You can't use it with the BETA anyways, but thought I would ask.

Since your installation is already messed up, I would first disable the current installation of Blink that you have on your system now.  To do this:

Start >> Run >> type "msconfig" >> select the Startup Tab.  Uncheck the box next to Blink and then restart your system.

You may try uninstalling it again at this point OR simply try installing the new BETA 4.5.0 (which  does work with Windows 7) over top of it.  It may fix up any of the files that are corrupted allowing you to uninstall it completely.

I would also recommend using a free program like CCleaner to clean up your system too (if you have not already done so):

Thanks for your reply, Blue. Unfortunately, the Beta version detects the old version, and requires an uninstall first. But the uninstall fails. That's why I need to manually remove it before I can proceed.

I am a paid-up, registered Blink user. If I can get it working again, I will contact eEye and ask for help getting the numbers right.

    Nicula,

Do you have any ideas on how to fix this issue?

I would recommend using the Microsoft MSI Uninstall tool http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe to remove the entry for Blink and then reinstalling Blink Personal 4.5.0 Beta http://download.eeye.com/blinkpersonal/beta

I do as suggested above, and run the beta install as administrator, but get this?

    Thoughts?

After upgrading from Vista 64 Home Premium to Windows 7 64 Home Premium Blink Personal would no longer run.  Followed the directions above and there is no change.  Blink Personal will still not run.  Double click on the Eye icon caused the pointer to respond as if the program was loading but then nothing happens.  No error message displays.

So you are unable to install the Blink Beta 4.5.0?

    Nicula,

Do you know of any fixes for this, I forsee many more people simply upgrading their systems to Windows 7 with the 4.4.3 version of Blink installed and they are going to end up being screwed because they did not know to un-install version 4.4.3 first?

Re: upgrade from Vista x64 to Windows 7 leaves Blink unusable, uninstallable

The Microsoft uninstall tool should remove Blink thus the new 4.5.0 installer should not ask for the uninstall of the old version.

After doing this, you are saying that there are still errors? We will look into this ASAP and work on a fix if reproduced.

Uninstalled Blink using Microsoft uninstall tool.  Installed new Blink version.  Blink does not run after double clicking desktop icon.  No error messages display.

I confirm using the Microsoft tool to remove Blink completely.  In trying to install 4.5.0 beta, I received the error shown above.  I hope you can help.

Restoring Blink after upgrading to Windows 7 x64

UPDATE: I have updated the batch file to solve some of the reported errors during installation.

Here is the procedure to restore Blink to a functioning state after upgrading the system from Vista x64 to Windows 7.

    1. Download, install and run Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe. Select eEye Digital Security Blink Personal and Remove it.

    2. Run As Administrator the attached Remove_Blink_Filesv2.bat batch file

    3. Download and Install Blink 4.5.0 from here: http://download.eeye.com/blinkpersonal/beta. You may be asked to reboot once. Relaunch the installer after reboot

    4. Enjoy.

Re: Restoring Blink after upgrading to Windows 7 x64

Thank you, but I have the exact same error (graphics above) after running the batch file as administrator before attempting to install 4.5.0. I downloaded the 4.5.0 exe anew to make sure...
