BLINK not Working after entering new Serial Number.

A year ago I bought a 3 asset license from eEye. I was very happy till today!

Today I just found out (the hard way) that my license expired, no previous warning! Just started the computer at 8:00pm (GMT -3) and it was working fine. When I started again at 10:00pm (GMT -3) it was telling that license expired. Ok, no big deal, I bought a new 3 asset license pack.

When I first tried the new serial number, it was saying: Invalid. I tried for like 10 times, in the last try it worked.

But, my windows security alert still showing that I have no Firewall and no Anti-Virus active on the system. This was working fine couple hours ago.

Tried to reinstall Blink 4.0.4. No, same situation.

Tried to Transfer License, and enter the serial again. Same situation.

    I´ve sent mail to : licensing@eeye.com, lnicula@eeye.com, blink.eap@eeye.com

So please, I ask two things...

    1 - Fix it ASAP.

2 - Make sure it´s really a 3 asset pack. My wife´s computer will arrive in a couple weeks, and I´ll really need to use another license in there!

I´ve sent my information from my personal email: cauew@yahoo.com

Hope to hear back really soon! This is the type of situation no one can afford! Computer without protection even with the bought license!

Don´t know what to do! Please FIX IT!

By the way, I´m running Windows XP with Service Pack 2.

Re: BLINK not Working after entering new Serial Number.

Before entering the license, did you go to License Management under Help, and select Transfer license?

Re: BLINK not Working after entering new Serial Number.

Yes I did. When I bought the new serial I selected the Update License. It was needed like 10 times to make it accept the new license number.

Windows security center showed no firewall and no antivirus. I uninstalled Blink 4.0.4 and reinstalled it again. In the reinstallation I´ve asked to remove the license. When finished I was prompted to enter it again. Windows Security Center still showing I have no antivirus and no firewall! I can´t afford to be unprotected! No one can!

Also, I please ask eEye to make sure this is really a 3 asset license. I´ll need it in a couple weeks!

Please help, my computer is unprotected!

    Thanks!

What happens when you go in Blink and enable the protections? To enable them, click on the Disabled text to the right of each section or press Ctrl-Q and check all check boxes.

Re: BLINK not Working after entering new Serial Number.

Doesn´t matter if I activate or deactivate. Windows still showing that I´m unprottected! That wasn´t happening yesterday with the old license.

Right now I´ve all services activated, but it makes no difference to Windows Security Center, if there´s any way just to prove that BLINK is really working, the windows msg is not a problem to me, but I need to be sure of that! I´m only accessing my email and eEye website to avoid any problem if I´m unprottected!

    Check the Blink screen:

Even like this Windows shows I have no Firewall and no Antivirus!

     Thanks for your help!

Hmmm, the picture is not working for me. :(

Here´s the direct link for the picture:

    http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h161/dklord666/Blink.jpg

But it´s not showing anything much useful, just the services enabled and nothing else.

All services shows as Active (Vulnerability Assessment shows as Scheduled) and in CTRL-Q all 4 box are checked!

Even like that, Windows says no protection!

I think this issue has been experienced in the past by a few users, not sure.  I will have to search the forums and see if I can find anything on it.

If it makes you feel better you can run checks like the following below in the meantime:

You can check to see if the firewall is working by going to:  https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2  .  Make sure your not behind a router or anything before you do so.

You can check to see if the AV is working by downloading a "fake" AV signature that is used for testing AV products.  It can be found here:

Hello dear friend Blue1978, you again saving the day!

I checked the topic you´re talking about, it refers to old blink version here´s the link: http://forums.eeye.com/forums/p/92/289.aspx#289

I feel much better now with the tests you suggested! All firewall ports are in Stealth Mode, with blink droping the traffic (I was able to see it in the log), and the AV test also went fine, Blink detected the file as a Malware!

So, its just not registering with windows security center, that started when my old license expired, and I entered the new one! Just don´t know why, anybody from eEye can help?!

     Thanks!

I know they are a busy group and all (since the Blink team has like only 4 people or so on it; I am not sure), but I could have sworn others have had this issue in the past and they helped fixed it...not sure though.  You CAN disable the Windows Security Center completely so it is no longer yapping at you if you wanted to ... *Pauses*  I did, cause it was annoying. lol

If your using Windows XP you do the following:

Control Panel >> Performance and Maintenance >> Administrative Tools >> Services

    - Look for the "Security Center" service, right click on it, select Stop and then Properties and then for the Startup type select Disabled.

This is up to you and at your own risk, but hey it works.  There is a lot of things in Windows that I have "gagged" by doing this.  I even did it to the "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing" service since I have the Windows Firewall turned off.

Yeah... I think I´ll do exactly what you suggested... But now another strange thing just happened...

I just power up my computer, and BLINK asked me to enter the license again?! So what happens now?! I´m using two licenses in this computer?! What will happen on monday when I´ll need the aditional licenses available to other machines?

Is there anybody from eEye that can check how many licenses I´m currently using and how many I have available?

    Blue thanks alot man!

    Thanks!

Re: BLINK not Working after entering new Serial Number.

I think there are significant problems in the update and license support for Blink Personal. My version was about to expire so I  bought 3 "assets."  I also had a messy probley with not being able to install ver 4.0.1 that consumed a lot of time. Here's part of an email I sent in reply to difficulties I experienced.

What is the exact error you get when trying to register 4.0.1? Thanks!

    There were many errors:
    • I purchased 3 assets license and downloaded the 401 installer.
    • But I was totally unable to install ver 4.0.1, many 26505 errors: Reboot, run the installer, get the error. Repeat. ... What a mess. Could not install 401.
    • I gave up on 401 and attempted to use the  license number on the current ver -- 3.8.5
    • When I entered the license number and tried to close Blink and restart, this caused  endless "hangs."  I had to use Task Manager to try to kill the blink processes. No good.  I had to reboot and try again. Finally I got it to start up. I cannot remember all the details of this hang and reboot-again situation.
    • But I was eventually able to apply the license number to ver 3.8.5 -- or so I thought, but still don't know.
    • Later -- I  read on the Forum how to deal with the 26505 error
    • This involved deleting reg keys, the Blink folder, running  CCleaner, reboot, etc ,etc -- essentially removing Blink from the system.
    • This caused "all traces" of Blink to be removed, or so I thought.
    • Therefore  I assumed that a license  (1 of 3) was "lost."  IOW, when I deleted 3.8.5, I deleted the fact that it was licensed -- but how could I be sure?
    • I was then able to successfully install ver 4.0.1 using BlinkPersonalSetup401.exe
    • Assuming that 4.0.1 could not have read 3.8.5's deleted files and registry entries, I concluded it was NOT licensed.
    • Nonetheless I decided NOT to apply the license to ver 4.0.4 (updated from 4.0.1) and simply WAIT until it expires.
    • I just received your email and decided to go ahead and enter the license number in 4.0.4. So just for fun, I selected Transfer License, assuming it was NOT registered. Wrong! It WAS licensed. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? I have no clue. I then had to re-license it. So I guess I used up another of the 3-assets license.  But there is no way for a user to determine this that I know of....

There is NO WAY TO DETERMINE IF BLINK IS LICENSED when you bring up the License Management dialog.
And  there is NO WAY TO DETERMINE THE EXPIRATION DATE of a license. Furthermore, I have no clue as to how many of my three licenses (assets) are still available. (Only one computer involved.)

    Suggestion

Under  Help -> License Management dialog

    • Display the current license situation including the expiration date.

    Thanks.

Re: BLINK not Working after entering new Serial Number.

I agree with Dirigible, this is a really good suggestion!

How can I get info on how many licenses I´m using or not?! BLINK asked me 3 times already to enter the license, I´ve received 3 times already the email that I just licensed my product!

Understand what our hero Blue1978 said... but if eEye wants just 4 guys to do all Blink job, it´s NOT my problem!!!! I paid for it, I agree the value is low for the great product you get, but it´s the price that eEye has set, so, if it´s low or not, again, NOT my problem! I want to use it as the announce says, 3 assets, I want to use it in 3 computers!!!! Too many people already had problems with the license, and I don´t want to be another one!

Can somebody PLEASE tell me how many licenses I still have?! I´m using it at ONLY ONE computer so far, but BLINK asked me 3 times already as I just said! I´ll not even talk about the Windows Security Center problem for two reasons:

    - Windows XP sometimes does strange things, and we can´t blame others for that, but I understand that it was working very well just before BLINK expired.

    - I know that nobody from eEye will come to help. eEye leaves it´s users to his own lucky! Eventually somebody comes to help, but if you miss users like Blue1978, this forum can be deleted. There´s no one taking care of it! Questions are not answered, and us, users, customers, just loose our time!

So please... I think that´s not too difficult to answer... spend a few minutes with me! HOW MANY LICENSES DO I STILL HAVE AVAILABLE?!

I can forward to any eEye employee the Digital River msg I´ve received, or the receipt. Just tell me what you need to check HOW MANY LICENSES I STILL HAVE AVAILABLE!

     THANKS!

Re: BLINK not Working after entering new Serial Number.

You may want to look under Help | About Box. It should tell you when it will expire. As for how many licenses you used up, that is correct, currently there is no way to do it without someone at eEye looking your account up. Another item on a long TODO list.

Mine doesn´t tell me! I checked Help -> About already (and again now) and I have no info on that.

Also, to who at eEye can we ask to check how many licenses still available?! I need my other 2 licenses for next week!

    Thanks!
