    neatchee:

... I switched to using Sunbelt Vipre in the meantime.  It's an interesting program, VERY lightweight with good detection and prevention test results.

I have been testing PrevX Edge 3.0 in a VM with Blink.  So far it has been extroidinary!  Originally PrevX 2.0 was a nightmare when put near Blink (hence why when you install Blink PrevX 2.0 is one of the security products listed on the do not use list).

PrevX Edge also seems to detect more files too when I tried a test between it and Vipre running in VMware.  I have kept around 400 files or so that I have submitted to Norman (via eEye) and PrevX seemed to detect more of them than Vipre ... but that is just something I note.

See my post here for more information on it all:  http://forums.eeye.com/forums/p/810/4046.aspx#4046

    Re: Windows 7 Beta

Small (perhaps inconsequential) update:  Upgraded to Windows 7 x64 Beta Build 7048 (what is being trumpeted as RC1 though there's still no word on whether it will be released to the general public) and gave Blink another shot.  Unfortunately now I can't even get it to install.  I receive an error stating that the Windows Installer Package is missing a required DLL.  Obviously this could be an upgrade issue, a Win7Beta issue, or god knows what else, so at this point I'd say if anyone else gets their hands on 7048 do NOT upgrade if you're hoping to run Blink any time soon.

    Re: Windows 7 Beta

So I'm up to Windows 7 x64 build 7068, with the official release candidate just around the corner (May 5th) and still no Blink for me :(  Build 7106 is also in the wild, though I haven't gotten my hands on an English version yet (damn you, Chinese torrent leakers!).

Currently, Blink won't even install, as the moment I click "Next" to confirm my installation location, I am presented with the following error:  "Error 1723.  There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A DLL required for this isntall to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

Any news I should be privvy to?  I'm itchin' to get my Blink back :D  Avira+Threatfire+ComodoFirewall just doesn't feel right to me :-\

We are starting the preliminary research work to see what needs to be done. Hopefully will have more to report in a few weeks.

*Not to be sarcastic here, but I want to make a joke out of what you said*

Let me guess, you are tired of these products asking you if you really want to do what you just told your system to do?  In otherwards your tired of being treated like a little kid when you use your OWN computer system? lol

"Are you really sure X 2, that what you clicked on is really what you wanted to click on???"  LOL

AND the fact that these products can not protect from a Zero day to save their life?  Threatfire = protection from Zero Day Malware, not Zero Day vulnerabilities

    *Gets off his makeshift soapbox*

Okay I am done, sorry. :)

You're preaching to the converted herre, Blue, but unfortunately on Win7x64 beta+, it's the only effective solution I've found, since Kaspersky causes BSODs, Norton is a hog, and AVG is just...blah.

    Re: Windows 7 Beta

We have  an update regarding Windows 7 x86 and Blink. We have been testing Windows 7 RC and Blink and noticed that it works a lot better than previous versions. The x64 bit version still has issues and so we do not recommend installing it on that edition yet.

Again, to install Blink on Windows 7 x86, run the installer with the NO_LAUNCH_CHECK=1 argument.

    c:\.....\BlinkSetupConsumer.exe NO_LAUNCH_CHECK=1

Please let us know if and what kind of issues you are running into.

    Thanks!

Yeppers!  I am with you on that one.  I am looking forward to buying a new 64 bit Windows 7 system when I get back from Afghanistan hopefully sometime in 2010.

Will this switch work with the Blink Professional x86 installer .exe as well as the consumer version?  Anxious to get this installed on my Windows 7 RC2. Thoughts?

    "c:\.....\BlinkSetupConsumer.exe NO_LAUNCH_CHECK=1"

To my knowledge, this post:  http://forums.eeye.com/forums/t/986.aspx   only applies to the 32bit version.  eEye has been working on the 64bit version still (to my knowledge).

Where'd you grab RC2 from? :o  7100 is the only legit/stable version I'm aware of

    Re: Windows 7 Beta

I just wanted to say that I'm another eEye customer who is very interested in installing and running Blink on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit ASAP. I have Blink Personal 4.3.2 and am getting the "Error 1723 Missing DLL" error when I install using "NO_LAUNCH_CHECK=1" on Windows 7 Build 7100. I'll be keeping a watch on this thread for good news.

    Re: Windows 7 Beta

I was just updated by the Blink Team Lead "lnicula", that eEye has two more issues to address in Blink before releasing the Beta version (for Windows 7) to the public for anyone interested in testing it.  This should cover both 32bit and 64bit versions (unless I am otherwise told).  eEye will have more on this soon.
