Unless your accessing the items directly in some way or another (clicking on them or accessing the folder or area they are lying within) they will probably not be detected.     A thought just came to me as I was reading your post: If you select a file, hit [ctrl]-C then [ctrl]-V, it will make a copy of the file that will be automatically scanned. Then you can delete the file. Not elegant, but a workaround.
